PERFECTIONISM THERAPY
Do you feel like your perfectionism and high performance are burning you out?
Do you constantly beat yourself up over small mistakes you have made?
Are you afraid that your boss, colleagues, and clients might be disappointed with your work?
Have family and friends started wondering why you are always stressed out and irritable?
Maybe you find that a rough day lingers into the evening and you can’t stop dwelling on what you did wrong. Perhaps you endlessly replay conversations in your head and think “I should’ve said this” or “I should’ve done that.” Others might say your standards for career success seem too high and all-consuming, but that doesn’t alleviate that nagging negative voice in your head. As a result, you may be thinking of seeing a therapist who treats perfectionism.
Perfectionism might be getting in the way of your best life.
Maybe you are constantly over-preparing and over-planning, because you’re scared to be seen as an imposture or fraud. In many cases your work frequently spills into the evenings, weekends, and sometimes holidays. There is a constant fear of letting your boss, colleagues, and clients down, so you work yourself to the bone to avoid this happening. You might frequently under-budget your time and energy on tasks that always take longer than you think they should.
Because of how overworked you are, you may have trouble eating, sleeping, or making time for exercise. Perhaps you’ve started to drink more to help you “calm your mind,” but you know that this is only a temporary fix. Your friends and loved ones might try to be supportive, but they don’t understand what you’re up against or how you’re naturally wired.
Your ‘great career’ makes every day feel fast, anxiety-provoking, and exhausting, and you secretly wonder, “Is this job or career even worth it?” If this is how you feel, we encourage you to pursue perfectionism therapy with us. At Sequoia Counseling Group, our goal is to help you soothe your stress, achieve a healthier work-life balance, and learn to love and accept yourself as you are.
You’re not alone if you’re dealing with perfectionism and burnout.
Struggling with perfectionism and career burnout is more common than you realize. We live in a fast-paced, success-crazed society that teaches us to go, go, and go until we drop. We constantly hear people brag about how many hours they work and how little work-life balance they have. So it’s no surprise that so many people deal with perfectionism and end up burnt out and exhausted. The pressure to get ahead is often so intense that it takes a toll on people’s mental, emotional, and physical health.
If you’re one of the millions of people wrestling with perfectionism, you may have already spent countless hours searching the web for answers.
You may have tried various tips and strategies to stop your negative thinking, but nothing seems to work. Perhaps you’ve reached out to friends and family for advice. While many of them are sympathetic and kind, their advice may not be helpful. Comments such as “Just lower your standards,” “Don’t worry so much about the quality of your work,” and “Just do things less perfectly” only make you feel worse.
You probably wish there was someone out there who understood your perfectionistic tendencies and could validate and support you unconditionally. The good news is that our practice specializes in helping people with high standards and big dreams. We’re confident that we can help you, too.

We’re happy to answer your questions!
What to expect in perfectionism treatment sessions.
During your first session, you and your counselor will take a deep dive into your struggles with perfectionism. They will focus on understanding how it impacts your life and what you’d like to change going forward. Once your goals and expectations for counseling are formulated, your counselor will work with you on various interventions and strategies to help better manage your perfectionism.
What these skills look like depends on what works best for you—after all, treatment with us is always highly individualized. We can give you tools for restructuring negative thought patterns, calming your fear of failure, and practicing thought-stopping when you find yourself spiraling down.
Our practice has a heavy focus on mindfulness.
Using breathwork, grounding, meditation, and other mindfulness activities, you can learn to be more present in the moment and avoid ruminating on the future so much. Perfectionism makes you overly concerned with what could go wrong tomorrow—mindfulness teaches you to ground yourself in the here and now. Most importantly, it can help you accept yourself as you are instead of thinking about who you should be.
By drawing from a wide range of evidence-based approaches, Sequoia Counseling Group is confident that we can help you overcome perfectionistic thinking and embrace your true self. It’s possible to go after your dreams while still cultivating a healthy work-life balance—our goal is to show you how!
You may still have some questions about perfectionism counseling…
Will counseling really help with my perfectionism
While counselors can never guarantee that counseling will work for a specific individual, the science is clear that psychotherapy overwhelmingly is effective. Here at Sequoia Counseling Group, we are well-versed in some of the most studied approaches to treatment, such as Mindfulness Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. If you are patient with yourself and willing to diligently work through your stuck points, we think it is very likely that therapy can be helpful.
How will I know if I am making progress in counseling?
One thing that differentiates our group from others in the Las Vegas area is our focus on Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT). This is a data-driven approach that uses advanced behavioral algorithms to help ensure that you are progressing in your treatment. All counselors in our practice have access to this software.
