ANXIETY THERAPY

Do you feel like you’re drowning in a sea of overwhelming thoughts and emotions due to anxiety?

Does it seem impossible to stop worrying and overthinking?

  • Do you wake up in the middle of the night feeling overwhelmed by everything that needs to get done?

  • Are you struggling with chronic headaches, jaw soreness, nausea, and muscular tension?

  • Maybe you’re realizing that anxiety is getting in the way of your life.

  • Perhaps you feel pushed to the max every day and it’s making you physically and emotionally exhausted.

  • Worst-case scenarios race through your mind and keep your mind and body on high alert.

  • You might feel constant pressure to pretend “everything is okay” at work and home while finding it impossible to slow down or relax.

For the first time, you may be considering a therapist who treats anxiety.

We’re happy to answer your questions!

Anxiety can impact your sleep, health, relationships, and every area of your life.

Perhaps you can’t remember the last time you had a good night’s sleep or felt well-rested. You catch your body feeling tense all over, frequently get stress headaches, and feel your stomach is always upset. Eventually, your anxiety could make you irritable and short-tempered with your loved ones. Your work performance may suffer, and you might find yourself making more mistakes because you’re so tired and checked out. To cope with your stress, you may be isolating more than usual, drinking more than you’d like, and turning to other unhealthy habits.

Life has become a burden, and the joyous, carefree moments you once experienced seem to be in your past.

If this is how you feel, we encourage you not to lose hope. Here at Sequoia Counseling Group, we specialize in treating anxiety so that you can get back to feeling like yourself and start thriving instead of just surviving.

If you’re struggling with anxiety, you’re not alone.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 31 percent of adults and adolescents in the U.S. experience some form of anxiety.* So if you find yourself wrestling with anxiety, you’re not the only one. Anxiety is a normal part of being human—in fact, sometimes a little anxiety isn’t a bad thing. Feeling anxious before an important task or job interview can actually help you perform better. But when your anxiety levels grow too high, performance decreases and your mental health can suffer.

Sadly, this is the case for millions of people with anxiety disorders. Some of the most common anxiety issues include generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, social anxiety, agoraphobia, and specific phobias like fear of heights or fear of public speaking. Our practice treats all of these forms of anxiety—in addition to many more—so it’s important to seek help if you’re struggling with one.

Treatment can equip you with the tools and skills to manage anxiety.

At Sequoia Counseling Group, anxiety is what we specialize in treating. If you are searching for a therapist who helps with social anxiety, panic attacks, or simply generalized anxiety therapy, we provide in-person counseling for those in the Las Vegas area and online counseling for the whole state of Nevada.

Our practice combines an empathetic, nonjudgmental approach with a wide variety of evidence-based approaches for treating anxiety. Anxiety symptoms are commonly viewed on a spectrum from mild discomfort to uncontrollable feelings. We are here to help you better understand where your symptoms fall on the spectrum and then use that knowledge to develop an effective treatment plan. We want to equip you with skills that are tailored to your strengths and allow you to feel more at ease with your life and in control of your feelings.

Others around you may not fully understand or know how to help.

You may have already searched the internet for self-help tips and life hacks for reducing anxiety. You’ve probably seen promises such as “Do this one thing and your anxiety will disappear.”

Yet none of the strategies you’ve found offer anything like long-lasting healing or relief.

Additionally, perhaps you’ve reached out to trusted friends and family for support. While they may try to help with well-intentioned suggestions such as “You’ve got so much to be grateful for,” “Let it go,” or “Just breathe,” these suggestions only make matters worse.

Deep down, you still feel misunderstood and wonder why you can’t just get over your anxiety.

If you have tried everything and still have trouble with anxiety, we can help. Our therapists are trained to work with people suffering from anxiety, so we know how to provide treatment that gets to the heart of the matter and allows for deeper healing and relief.

What to expect in anxiety treatment sessions.

You and your counselor will start with a comprehensive intake assessment that allows them to get a full picture of what is going on in your life. They will help you unravel the sources of anxiety and look at how it impacts your life. With the help of your counselor, you will practice a series of tools designed to prevent and manage anxiety.

Our practice often draws from an approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based treatment method that can help you explore how negative thoughts are fueling your anxiety and leading to maladaptive behaviors. By changing how you think, you can change how you feel and reduce your need to engage in unhealthy coping mechanisms like drinking or drug use. We will teach you healthy coping skills such as stress inoculation training, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness training, social anxiety therapy, improved sleeping habits, and other cognitive management techniques.

No matter how anxious you feel today, we are confident that we can help you release your stress by integrating the best research and approaches into therapy.

Our founder and clinical director, Dr. Gnilka, worked for over 12 years as a professor of counseling. During that time, he conducted extensive research and presentations on anxiety as well as taught and supervised students in various counseling approaches and techniques. By directly applying the knowledge and insights Dr. Gnilka and the rest of our staff have gained, we believe we can empower you to manage your anxiety more successfully.

You may have some concerns or questions about anxiety treatment…

Can’t I just do this on my own?

There’s nothing wrong with trying to reduce anxiety on your own. But just like we need extra help from a doctor for an injury or a dentist for a cavity, you may need some extra help from a specially trained anxiety counselor. Given that we have treated many clients suffering from anxiety, we can help guide you in the most effective techniques and approaches that are likely to speed up your recovery.

Do I need to take medication as part of my treatment for anxiety?

Not necessarily. Therapy is often effective enough that medication is not needed. Some clients want to try “talk therapy” first before trying medications, while others feel the need to start both in combination. We are here to help you understand what the psychological and counseling research states regarding this as well as helping you make a decision that is best for you.

Is anxiety therapy worth the investment? How do I know it will help me?

From an ethical standpoint, we can never guarantee that counseling will always work for an individual client. What we can say is that we are trained in some of the most proven approaches to treating anxiety and we will rigorously track your progress. You will know at every session if you are making progress and we always encourage your feedback about how you think treatment is going.

How fulfilling would life be if you could conquer your anxiety and stress?

You don’t have to keep feeling anxious forever. If you want to take back control of your life and get started on the path to healing and wellness, we encourage you to try anxiety treatment with us.

See if we’re the right fit for you.
